Job DescriptionFor businesses, accountants are responsible for the maintenance of financial records, ensuring that taxes are paid on time, and for making sure that the company’s money is used wisely. An accountant may work with a major corporation, a smaller business, or even an individual. Accountants work with clients on the preparation and explanation of financial papers, and they can also help consumers set up a budget or an investment plan.  A person working as a public accountant may work in the private or public sector, and may have a specialty in tax handling.It’s an accountant’s job to keep up to date on technology, such as financial software. They must also stay current on state, federal and local laws on taxes and finances. The average accountant works around forty hours per week, but during tax season, the work week is often extended because clients are trying to prepare and file their tax work. An accountant’s work can be done in a small business, a large corporation, or even for the government. Before a person enters the accounting field, they should prepare by taking computer and math courses.To become an accountant, you will need at least a bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting; a master’s degree will make you more employable. When first hired as an accountant, you will probably work with a more experienced colleague.
